Local pizza business robbed at gunpoint | Crime
IOWA CITY, Iowa--In the early morning hours of December 31, the Iowa City Police Department responded to Gumby's Pizza located at 702 S. Gilbert Street for a report of an armed robbery. A store employee reported that two black males armed with a handgun entered the store, pointed the handgun at the employee's head, and demanded money. The store employee complied with the demand giving the suspects an undisclosed amount of money. The suspects then left the store and fled the area on foot.
Responding Patrol Officers spoke with a witness who was able to point out a location where they had observed the suspects fleeing from the scene. From here, Iowa City K9 Officer Brandon Faulkcon and K9 Rakker, in their first week of patrol since being trained and certified as a K9 unit, were able to track the suspects to an apartment building located at 816 S. Gilbert Street.
Interviews of the occupants of 816 S. Gilbert #3 and the service of a search warrant at this residence has led to the arrests of 27 year old Marvis Jackson of Iowa City for Robbery-1st Degree and 24 year old Wesley Turner of Iowa City for Robbery-1st Degree Joint Criminal Conduct. Both charges are class "B" felonies.
After Marvis Jackson was taken into custody Investigators reviewed recent unsolved armed robbery cases and were able to determine that he was responsible for two other armed robberies.
Marvis Jackson has also been charged with additional counts of Robbery-1st Degree for armed robberies that occurred on November 13, 2012 at the On The Go BP located at 2315 Muscatine Avenue and on November 22, 2012 at the Suburban BP located at 1905 Keokuk Street.
No one was injured in any of the robberies.
Jackson and Turner are currently being held at the Johnson County Jail.
As with any criminal case, a charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
